Meet the Illustrator: Kids’ Book Review Interview
About Kids’ Book Review
Kids’ Book Review is a children’s literature platform that supports and showcases authors, illustrators, and publishers from around the world. Founded in 2009 by Australian author and illustrator Tania McCartney, the site is run by a dedicated team of women with decades of collective experience across the children’s book industry - including publishing, illustration, education, bookselling, librarianship, and literacy advocacy.
In addition to reviews, Kids’ Book Review publishes interviews, industry articles, guest posts, and specialist literacy content, attracting a broad audience that includes teachers, librarians, publishing professionals, parents, and young readers. The site consistently ranks among the most trusted kidlit review platforms globally and is recognized as one of the top children’s book blogs in Australia.
I was thrilled to be included in Kids’ Book Review’s Meet the Illustrator feature, which highlights creators and their creative process, influences, and approach to making books for children.
In the interview, I share a peek into my creative process, what inspires my playful and colorful style, the artists and artistic traditions I admire, and even a look at my home studio (complete with pets and a full-wall mural!). I also offer advice for aspiring illustrators and reflect on what keeps me excited to create books, toys, murals, and more.
