Natural Habitat Card Collection | Lagom Design | 2025
Each year, I set aside time to create illustration work outside the scope of my client projects. This allows me to experiment and spark new opportunities with existing and future clients. That process led to the Natural Habitats collection, a series of illustrations inspired by ecosystems from around the world. The art I developed included six detailed scenes that celebrate the beauty of wildlife in a warm, approachable, and family-friendly style. Lagom Design was excited to bring the collection into their 2025 greeting card assortment. Below is a look at how the Natural Habitats stationery line came together!
Friends of the Desert Cards
The main cards in this collection showcase one full Natural Habitat scene. This design features plant and animal life residing in the desert - specifically the Saguaro Desert located in Arizona. A variety of animals are placed around cactus and succulents which are vital for sustaining life in harsh desert conditions.
The Lagom Design team pulled three individual characters into mini cards with solid, bright backgrounds including the vulnerable Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl and the Arizona Sister Butterfly.
Friends of the Bamboo Forest Cards
This illustration highlights animals native to the Bamboo Forests of China’s Qinling Mountains, a region known for its exceptional biodiversity. Many of the species shown are vulnerable, including two that are critically endangered: the Chinese giant salamander and the Chinese Luehdorfia butterfly.
Using artwork from the main illustration, Lagom Design created two coordinating mini greeting cards featuring the panda and red panda.
Friends of the Arctic Cards
This artwork showcases animals from the Arctic regions of northern Greenland, highlighting a mix of land, sea, and airborne species that display the diversity of life in this cold environment. While the habitat is harsh, I brought warmth to the artwork through a pink sky, icy blues, and touches of brown, yellow and orange.
Lagom Design created three mini cards, including my favorite design of the whole collection: the peeking ringed seal on a bright pink ground.
Friends of the Savannah Cards
Known for its incredible biodiversity, the African savannah presented a unique challenge - choosing which animals to feature! I focused on highlighting a mix of critically endangered species, including African wild dogs and the African bush elephant, alongside vulnerable animals such as cheetahs, hippos, and lions.
Not only did Lagom Design expanded the artwork into a range of mini cards, each card was finished with recyclable spot UV embossing to add texture and make the art pop!
Every card back showcases the animals displayed on the front along with their names.
This artwork was also licensed by Crocodile Creek in the games and puzzles category.
