Valentine’s Day Collection | Hip-Hip | 2016
I launched the Hip-Hip stationery line in 2015, and the following year I created an expansive Valentine’s Day collection designed to meet a wide range of needs.
The assortment included standard greeting cards, mini card sets, and stickers - all developed to sit together with bold color, playful illustration, and clear, simple concepts that jump off the shelves.
Main Line Valentine’s Cards
The main line included nine traditionally-sized Valentine’s Day greeting cards, sold direct to customers and wholesale to stationery shops. The collection was built intentionally to have breadth with some designs skewing more adult, others more for kids, some text-forward, while others focus on character and illustration.
Every design in this assortment was later licensed by other stationery companies, and the Meow and Furever cat card received a Louie Award, recognizing excellence in stationery design.
Mini Card Sets
The Valentine’s mini cards were a chance for rapid-fire creation. I developed three collections - one for friends, one for coworkers, and one for kids - each with 6 designs for a total of 18 new concepts!
Packaged in clear cello boxes with white mini envelopes and gold stickers, these sets were designed to feel small but special. Bold backgrounds and character-driven illustrations make each tiny card stand out, proving that even the smallest format can make a strong visual impact.
Local Love Series
As independent retailers began asking for designs that celebrated their local communities, I developed a Local Love series with two distinct approaches.
One style was character-focused, featuring a state animal paired with a “Hello from…” sentiment. The other was text-driven, with large, hand-drawn city names artfully placed over the state shape - and a heart marking the location.
I really enjoyed working directly with shop owners to develop this line and create versions that fit for them!
Valentine’s Stickers
To round out the line, I designed three Valentine-themed sticker sets: one featuring cats, one text-based, and one with a mix of animals. All stickers were large circular formats, with artwork designed to fully fill the space.
The result is a set of bold, graphic stickers that work just as well on cards as they do on notebooks, packaging, or clothing - an easy way to add a quick hit of Valentine’s fun!
Collection Life & Licensing
The collection was a strong performer, living on both my online shop and Faire for several years. Most of the designs were licensed to other companies and some are still in production - even 10 years later!
